Illinois Alert: Gun Owner Insurance Is Coming

Tue, Jan 27, 2026

With session underway here in Springfield, things can move fast.

ILFA is getting word from inside Springfield that House Democrats want to move quickly on HB-43, the civil liability study bill we’ve been warning you about.

And make no mistake, this is not some harmless “study” bill.

HB-43 is the vehicle J.B. Pritzker is using to force law-abiding gun owners to buy government-approved insurance just to apply for, or renew, a FOID Card.

At a time when violent crime is out of control in Illinois — carjackings, armed robberies, shootings, and repeat offenders being dumped back onto the streets — Pritzker’s solution isn’t to punish criminals.

It’s to punish us.

HB-43 creates a bogus task force filled with Pritzker appointees to study whether or not Pritzker should mandate that we have insurance as a condition of applying for a FOID Card.

Of course, this ‘study committee’ will say yes.

This bill has nothing to do with public safety; it’s the latest attack from a tyrannical governor who wants to disarm us all.

Criminals won’t buy insurance.

Criminals don’t apply for FOIDs.

Criminals won’t follow any of this.

But Pritzker and his allies don’t care. They want fewer armed, law-abiding citizens, like thuggish dictators throughout history.

We’re being told this bill could come up fast in Springfield, and if we don’t hit hard now, the votes will quietly line up behind closed doors.

That’s how bad bills pass in Illinois.

So we need to light up the Capitol immediately.

Pritzker’s gun control agenda has already caused crime to soar here in Illinois.

Passing more gun control will only lead to more armed criminals, and less armed citizens.

Fire off your email and then share the action link with every gun owner you know and encourage them to take action immediately!

More to come.
